In 1860, Louis-Ulysse Chopard founded his own watch workshop in Sonvilier, Switzerland. As a descendent of watchmakers working for several other companies, Chopard decided to become an independent watch brand, specializing in highly accurate timepieces, of which many were bought by Swiss railroad companies. Moving to Geneva in 1920, the Chopard brand was further developed by specializing in jewelry and jewelry watches.
