No one has said it more aptly about Anna Ancher and her relationship to colours than Oscar Björck in 1929: “She is like sunshine, and in her paintings, there is something that none of us can capture to the same degree. A quiet devotion to the task and use of colour that is as saturated and juicy as a ripe fruit.” From an early age, she was interested in strong and intense colours such as radiant yellow, pink and purple, and her choice of colours testifies to her courage to be different and to stand out from the other Skagen painters. A good example of this is the present painting with the dominant pink curtain shimmering in many red, pink and light purple colours against the green wall and bookcase with kitchen utensils.
