Here the author mentions that Købke in a letter to his sister Adolphine July 22, 1839 writes (in Danish): “I have begun to copy three lovely Girls, as they call the three Graces, who in pagan times must have been Goddesses, ...” and later the same year in August he wrote to the sculptor Georg Hilker, that he was working with “The Three Graces”.

The original, which is a wall fresco from Herculaneum, is located in the National Archeological Museum in Naples and bears the title “Conversazione di donne”. That one reproduced p. 63 in Hans Edvard Nørregård-Nielsen “Christen Købke, Italien tur -retur”.
