In his own exuberant way, Henning Koppel was successfully capable of channelling the spirit of Georg Jensen in his work, though with his own uncompromising, aesthetic idiom. Larst year, Henning Koppel would have turned a hundred years old, and from the time he began working for Georg Jensen’s silver smithery in 1946, he spent several decades enriching the smithery’s repertoire with a series of pitchers, tea and coffee sets, dishes and cutlery. Common to this work is that the strongly curving lines of the silver are the cornerstone of the design. Throughout the years, the lines became more disciplined. The fact that Koppel was a trained sculptor is clearly visible in his work with the silver hollowware, of which he expresses the following sentiment:

“You display it, look at it and find pleasure in it every single day. It is not supposed to be hidden away in some cupboard. In my opinion, beauty is the primary element to strive for in everything”.

Quote from Niels Jørgen Kaiser’s “The World of Henning Koppel”, p. 79.
