In “Fritz Syberg. Kunsten, naturen kærligheden”, 1910, Erland Porsmose writes about Syberg's fascination with the effect of the wind on the grain's movements. “The magical swirling of the wind over the sea of grain and the alluring movement of the rye into the field of vision already captured Syberg in the years in Svanninge. At Pilegården he had time to await the return of the rye in the field and the appropriate weather, the color of the day - or rather Syberg had a number of versions of the same theme in progress adapted to different weather, light and color combinations” (p. 293). In the present painting you can feel “the whirlwind of the wind over the sea of grain”.
