Margarita Philosophica […]. Basel 1517. 4to. 20×14,2 cm. 269 leaves. Not complete. With 16 full page woodcuts (most framed), more than 35 pages with large woodcuts and more than 60 pages with small woodcuts in text. Lacking title page and app. 17 leaves, incl. the world map (as usual). 2 leaves in facsimile. Bound in cont. blind tooled vellum over wooden boards, with 2 clasps, red edges. Hinge crack to lower part of spine.

This ancient compendium of general knowledge is divided into 12 parts in form of dialogues beteween master and scholar. The first part contains a sufficiently elaborate Latin Grammar, chiefly in hexameter verse. The remaining parts comprise chapters on Logic, Rhetoric, Arithmetic, Music, Geometry, Astronomy, Astrology, Natural History, the Immortality of the soul.
