“Orkidea” (Orchid). A collection of sculptural clear glass vases. Shaped with small mouth. Signed Timo Sarpaneva, Iittala, 3557 and 3568. Dated 56 and 57. Made 1956 and 1957 by Iittala, Finland. H. 6–28.5 cm. (8)
The “Orkidea” vase was presented at the Milan Triennale in 1954 where it was awarded the “Grand Prix”. The same year “Orkidea” was also awarded the “Most beautiful object of the year” by the American magazine “House Beautiful”.
Generally with patina due to age and use including surface scratches. Large heart-shaped vase and one small heart-shaped vase with dirt/fogged on the inside. One tall vase (H. 25.7 cm.) fogged on the inside. One small heart-shaped vase with crystallized/scratched inside. Some vases with minimal chips on the foot rim. Flat oval vase with nick/crack on the underside (circa 1 cm.)
