Literature: Henrik Wivel, “L. A. Ring - Det glasklare hjerte”, 2020, fig. 112, mentioned and reproduced on p. 181. Wivel writes about the painting (in Danish): “In the almost three years that the couple lived in Frederiksværk, Ring painted some of his most distinct renditions of the Danish landscape, characterised by vivid, local colours with an almost engraved sharpness in the details, or an expressive van Gogh-ish fashion, as in ”A field of viper's bugloss in bloom at Frederiksværk“, 1901”.
Provenance: The collection of consul general Valdemar Glückstadt, his auction 1918 no. 83. Sotheby's, London, 27 March 1990 no. 197, as “View near Karrebæksminde in North Zealand”. Here acquired by the present owner, a distinguished private collector.
