A Russian diamond and emerald brooch in the form of the Imperial Russian double-headed eagle, mitro crowned with ribbons and outstretched wings, claws holding scepters and orb, richly set with rose-cut, old mine-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds, eyes in the shape of resp. a faceted emerald and tsarovite, center with an emerald-cut emerald, mounted in silver and gold. Top with an eyelet. Apparently unmarked. Front 19th century, reverse first half of the 20th century. Weight app. 37.5 g. H. 6.9 cm.
The brooch can make references to the pendant of the chain of the Order of St. Andrew. This pendant was an eagle and in some cases set with diamonds.
