Jimmy Nelson is a photographer known for his portraits of tribal and indigenous people. He has spent many years studying, understanding, and capturing moments from these communities. Since 1992, he has published three books documenting the stories and photographs from his travels – and this portrait presented depicts a man from the nomadic Nenet people. The Nenets are reindeer herders who migrate across the lands of the Yamal Peninsula in Russia. During their annual migration, they cover a distance of around 1,000 km, which includes crossing the frozen Ob River, more than 48 km wide.
