A drum converted brass mounted fully stocked hunting rifle c 1770–80 by Valentin Marr in Copenhagen. The butt with patchbox and chinrest, rounded lock with set triggers marked VALENTIN MARR on the side and COPENHAGEN og the edge, fine side plate decorated with rocailles on punched background, c 69,2 cm long octagonal barrel in calibre c 15 mm. rifled with 7 grooves.

Valentin Marr, 1696–1786, is regarded as one of the best makers of Denmark.

Condition

All iron spotted, the sigths new, the fore stock is missing a long chiver of wood on each side and the ramrod gardly original to the gun.
