Ingeborg Laura Margrethe Clausen (b. København 1882, d. 1956)
“Paaskeliljer og Grene”. Still life with daffodils, chestnut branches in bud and pussy willow. Signed and dated J. C. 1924. Oil on canvas. 52×64 cm. Mounted in a wooden frame presumably carved by the artist.
Exhibited: Charlottenborg 1925 no. 95.
Ingeborg Clausen was a student of N. V. Dorph (1862–1931) from 1897 to 1898 and then Luplau Jansen (1869–1927) until 1901.
She travelled frequently in Europe - in Germany and France, especially Paris - and in Italy, Holland and Belgium, among other places. In 1923 she made her debut at Charlottenborg and exhibited frequently until 1930, and she also exhibited at Fynske Maleres Udstilling from 1927 to 1934.
Ingeborg Clausen produced woodcarvings for Ollerup Church, including the frame for the altarpiece by Bertha Dorph (1875–1960). She also produced children's portraits, flower paintings, silverware and other handicrafts in the Arts and Crafts style. The fragile flower buds in the work at this auction are a testament to inspiration from the Arts and Crafts style and to Clausen's work with crafts.
No remarks.
