Original b/w press photograph of Japanese kamikaze aircraft during night suicide attack on the American escort ship USS Sangamon on May 4, 1945. Back with N.E.A. agency stamp and descriptive text, this dated August 18, 1945. Black stained oak wood frame with double glazing. Visible size 19×24 cm. Frame size 29×34 cm.

Kamikaze attacks, employed by Japan during World War II, involved suicide pilots intentionally crashing their aircrafts into enemy ships. This desperate method of warfare aimed to inflict maximum damage and to demoralize Allied forces during battles. Photographs showing actual kamikaze crashings are very rare.

This is an original b/w silver-gelatin press photograph from 1945, which appears with normal handling marks.
