In 1866, the company built a factory in the south of Saint-Imier, in an area known as Les Longines, from which the company name derives. Longines is particularly known for having developed different types of watches for aviation, having equipped Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932 and Charles Lindbergh, who flew directly between New York and Paris in 1927, breaking all previous records.
