Russian jeweler, early 20th century

A Russian 14k bangle, set with three rectangles, in which respectively an oval facet-cut emerald, ruby, and sapphire, surrounded by numerous old-cut diamonds. Indistinct maker's mark, 56 standard. Early 20th century. 5.2×5.7 cm. Case enclosed. (2).

Provenance: In the case lid a note with Danish text: “Belongs to Grethe, to be presented on her confirmation day from John Olsen”. Thus, the Russian bangle was a confirmation gift from John Olsen to the Danish owner's Danish grandmother (b. 1901). Her father was director of De Forenede Københavnske Brødfabrikker (The United Copenhagen Bread Factories / Schulstad) and he often travelled to Russia before 1917 for business purposes. John Olsen was probably a business connection.
