A large Danish historicist silver centerpiece, bowl top with two handles and lion heads, baluster stem, domed-circular base, overall engraved and cast with foliage and military symbols, engraved in Danish “For General Wørishøffer, the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog / In memory of devotion and love from the Brigade Officers of Fyn Island / Eckernførde 1848, Fredericia 1849 / Dybbøl 1864”. Filled. Maker Vilhelm Christésen, Copenhagen 1874. H. 48 cm.

Provenance; Company commander and later general Philipp Wørishøffer (1804–1892). He served in the First Schleswian War 1848–1852 under Colonel Olaf Rye and Colonel Christian de Meza, where he won honors at Eckernførde and Fredericia. In the Second Schleswian War 1864 he was also recognized for his valor, especially during the siege of Dybbøl. In 1865 he became commander of Copenhagen. In 1874 Wørishøffer received the Grand Cross of the Order pf Dannebrog and shortly after he got his discharge from military service due to age.

Condition

Stem and base with minimal wear due to age and use, though maybe a bit wry. Top bowl with minimal marks and soft glue remains from a flower decoration. The top bowl screw (towards the stem) is worn, so the bowl is placed loose in the stem.
