Neil Armstrong: An original NASA colour offset photograph of Stars and Stripes planted on the Moon on July 21st 1969. Surrounding the flag the footsteps of astronauts Neil Armstrong (1930–2012) and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin (b. 1930). Photo size 35×28 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.

Most people do not know that Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin did not only plant one American flag in the lunar sand, yet actually six! They are still likely to stand - with the addition of the flags left by all later missions.

Everything that had to do with sending man to the Moon was carefully planned and carefully described. Everything had a name. In NASA's manuals the American banner was not simply “the flag”, “Stars and Stripes”, etc. - no, it was known as “LFA”, “Lunar Flag Assembly”. The man behind the flags and the detachable metal flagpoles was the engineer Jack Kinzler (1920–2014), head of the technical department of Manned Spacecraft Center (MSC) in Houston, Texas.

Condition

This is an original NASA colour offset photograph from the late summer of 1969. Minimal signs of handling.
