P. S. Krøyer (b. Stavanger 1851, d. Skagen 1909)

Portrait of the Danish actor and former Theatre director at Aarhus Theater Jacob Jørgen Jacobsen (1865–1955). He is seen laying in the grass, wearing hunting clothes and with a rifle by his side. Signed and dated S. K. Skagen Septbr 1894. With dedication “Til Jacob Jacobsen fra P. S. Krøyer” (to Jacob Jacobsen from P. S. Krøyer). Pencil on paper mounted in passepartout. Visible size 22×32.5 cm.

Jacob J. had a summer house in Skagen, with his wife, the actor Christel Holch. Here, he met with the group of Skagen-painters, who often met at Holger Drachmann's house, and of which P. S. Krøyer became a good friend. Jacob Jørgen Jacobsen was a Theatre director at Aarhus Theater from 1908–13.

Provenance: Passed down to the wife of Jacob Jørgen Jacobsen, Christel Julie Emanuela Holch in 1946. Thence to their daughter, Merete Christel La Ruelle (Holch) in 1968–69.

Condition

Minimal discolourations. Examined in frame.
