Thorvald Bindesbøll (b. Copenhagen 1846, d. s.p. 1908)
A large earthenware vase with incised leaf and flower decor. Decorated with ochre, reddish brown, blue, white and green glaze. Signed monogram, 1896, Nov. Made at Eifrig's Workshop, Valby. Unique. H. 46 cm. Diam. 36 cm.
Provenance: Professor MD Jens Schou, thence by descent within the family. Professor Jens Schou (b. 1854, d. 1936) was a highly acknowledged Danish medical professor of Anatomy and was a consultant at several Danish hospitals from 1880–1899. Later on from 1899–1906 he acted as life surgeon to King Christian IX. Furthermore, Professor Schou was listed in Kraks Blå Bog and was knighted the Order of Dannebrog.
