A large and rare Northern Indian early 19th cent. shield made from the carapace of a sea turtle. The front of the shield is decorated with a cobra and along the rim scenes of gods, animals and humans. Four bosses in brass holds the original straps. The inner side is red painted and has the original cushion for the hand preserved.
The paintwork damaged.
