Kathrine Ærtebjerg (b. Sorø 1969)
“Hun var sikker i sin sag (She was sure of herself)”, 2004. Signed, titled and dated on the reverse. Oil on canvas. 125×95 cm. Unframed.
In 2008, we celebrated the 100-year anniversary of women’s suffrage. On that occasion, the artist Katrine Ærtebjerg dedicated a painting that was made into a poster. The artist describes the work from 2004, entitled “Hun var sikker I sin sag” (She was sure of herself), in the following way: “The image says something about women’s place in society today. The woman in the painting is a woman who is and wants many things all at once: She is a housewife, lovely and brave, she is equally adept at using tools, vegetables and poetry. Beyond this, she is self-confident – she doesn’t hold back but has the courage to embrace the world around her. A bit of a super lady, but not so super, that anyone feels they can’t identify with her.”
