A Royal memorial porcelain cup, decorated in colors and gold on reddish-brown ground, the saucer bearing King Christian VIII and Queen Caroline Amalie of Denmark's crowned monogram with date and years on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary “1815 d: 22de Mai 1840”, surrounded by a wreath of myrtles. The Royal Porcelain Factory marked in underglaze blue and later in overglaze.
Queen Caroline Amalie was born a Princess of Augustenborg, modernized the Danish crown jewels and was very charitable. King Christian VIII was very interested in art and became the father of King Frederik VII.
Gustav Friederich Hetsch was artistic director of the Royal Porcelain Factory from 1828–1864. Hetsch became a leading figure both as an architect and craftsman in the late classicism of the 1840s and 1850s. During his time at the Royal Porcelain Factory, he created a number of models and decorations based on ancient forms.
