Kristian von Hornsleth (b. Edinburgh, Skotland 1963)
Pondus. Signed Hornsleth 2017. Ceramic painted with airbrush and indian ink. H. 27 cm.
The artist Kristian Hornsleth is known for his provocative painting style, which has made its mark on both canvases, expensive cars and nightclubs. Commenting on the Pondus Project the artist says: “I used to have a Pondus money box as a child. It terrified me. I had heard that penguins were very aggressive animals. On the other hand, the money box figure radiated such a stoic tranquillity. It made the figure seem highly trustworthy, and so it made sense to put your money in it. The expression of my Pondus comes from my oeuvre. I call it abstract self-portraits. I try to paint what is inside me and have refined this over the years. Therefore, my Pondus is me feeling the world and expressing it. It is the result of my research.”
All the proceeds from the sale of the artwork will go to the Children & Youth Foundation and UNICEF. Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers will waive its usual fee in connection with the sale.
