The original by Poussin from c. 1624–25 is in the Worsley Collection, Hovingham Hall, York.
Aurora, goddess of dawn, fell in love with the mortal Cephalus and tried to seduce him. He thought only of his wife Procris and rejected her. The motif is from Ovid's Metamorphoses (Book Seven).
Retouches. Minor crackles and minimal peelings. Several larger repairs / patches on the reverse. In need of a light surface cleaning.
