Daniel De St. Leu
A George III ebonised striking table clock, gilded brass dial with openwork corner ornaments of gilt bronze, silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, the movement with Strike-Silent and calendar. Dial and movement marked Daniel De St. Leu, London. C. 1775. H. 50 cm. W. 28 cm. D. 18 cm.
Daniel De St. Leu was working from London 1753–1797. He produced some of the most exquisite and elaborate watches and clocks of the eighteenth century. Gaining royal favour, he was appointed to Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III, in 1765 and held the title of 'Sevt. to her Majesty'.
