Fritz Syberg (b. Faaborg 1862, d. Kerteminde 1939)

On the stretcher an exhibition label from an exhibition in Stockholm in 1938.

Anna was née Hansen. Her father was the painter Syrak Hansen, her brother the painter Peter Hansen. All three were members of the painter colony “Fynboerne”.

Fritz and Anna were engaged 1891, they were very poor and first in 1894 did they actually marry. The painting was executed in the first year of their marriage. Anna, wearing a light summer dress, is playing the piano in the lilac coloured room with gold borders. A large bunch of marguerites is placed on the piano.
