Jens Juel (b. Balslev, Funen 1745, d. Copenhagen 1802)
The artist's daughter Susanne Juel as a child. 1794. Unsigned. Bears the signature Jens Juel pinxit on the reverse. According to Ellen Poulsen the signature was presumably transferred from the old canvas. Oil on canvas laid on panel. 22×28 cm.

Susanne Juel (1793–1840), called Sanne, was married to the painter C. W. Eckersberg (1783–1853) in 1828, the year after her sister Julie (1791–1827), Eckersberg's second wife, had died. The National Gallery of Denmark owns a portrait by Eckersberg dated 1823 of Susanne Juel as a grown-up (Inv. No. KMS1775).
Crackles and a few minimal retouches. Uneven varnish that should be removed. Older retouching at the neck. In need of cleaning.
