Christine Swane, attributed (b. Kerteminde 1876, d. Farum 1960)
View from Møllebakken, Kerteminde. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 37×50 cm.
Inscribed on the stretcher: “Probably painted Christine Larsen (later Swane) c. 1905. Erland Porsmose”. Stamp from Kerteminde Museums.
As the sister of the painter Johannes Larsen, Christine Swane is included in a larger circle of performing artists. She is educated at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1898–1901 and subsequently receives instruction from Fritz Syberg, J.F. Willumsen and Harald Giersing. Around 1910 she marries the painter Sigurd Swane, but the marriage breaks up in 1920. Unlike many other women in artist marriages of the time, Swane continues her career and development as an artist.
Several of Christine Swane's works are in the Johannes Larsen Museum's collection. In 2018, the museum shows the exhibition “GRØN”, the same year at Odsherred Kunstmuseum and in 2019 at “Upåagtet”, Rønnebæksholm.
