A cruet stand is a small stand of silver, glass or porcelain, which holds containers for condiments. Typically these include spice casters, accompanied by mustard and an oil and vinegar container, resting on a base with a tall central handle with a ring on the top. English cruet stands have a larger number of containers than the Danish, sometimes 8 or more for the large variety of condiments used to give a special flavour to food. Cruet stands are rare in Denmark. First seen from about 1740, they go out of fashion again just 100 years later.
