An original American b/w press photograph of President Harry S. Truman (1884–1972) in conversation with General Douglas MacArthur (1880–1964) on Wake Island in the Pacific Ocean on October 14, 1950. Back with UPI stamp and publication and filing dates (October 16th, 1950 [vague], January 7th, 1976). Photo size 19.5×25.5 cm. Frame size 33×43 cm.

On October 15, 1950, U.S. President Harry S. Truman and General Douglas MacArthur met on Wake Island - situated in the middle of the Pacific - to confer about the progress of the Korean War. The conference was to be the only time that Truman and MacArthur would ever meet face to face. During the conference Truman presented MacArthur with his fifth and final Army Distinguished Service Medal. MacArthur's record of being awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal five times has been equaled only by Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Condition

This is an original b/w press photograph from 1950, which has a small repair in the upper left side (the edge; see illustration) as well as a minor surface crease also in the left side. Furthermore normal signs of age and handling. Frame with pressure marks.
