'May 68'. An original b/w press photograph from the student riots in Paris in May 1968. In the foreground a lonely French policeman facing an enormous crowd. Back with 'Le Monde' stamp and handwritten note, 'mai 68'. Visible size 19.5×25 cm. Frame size 28×34 cm.

Throughout seven weeks - from May 2-June 23 1968 - France was intensely shaken by massive civil unrest, by gigantic demonstrations and numerous occupations of factories and universities. When the chaos reached its peak, the French economy came to a standstill. Later the period was simply named 'May 68'.

This is an original b/w press photograph from 1968, which shows a slightly wavy surface and a stained back. Furthermore general signs of handling.
