The fictional character Jay “Chef” Hicks was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1926. Initially he wanted to be a saucier - a cook specializing in making sauces - and he therefore went to Paris to get training at the Ritz. After that he joined the US navy, believing - very optimistic it turned out - that this institution would be creating the finest food in the world!
