A Swedish so-called “kommendervärja” for a high-ranking officer c 1720 with inscription on the blade. The hilt in gilded brass has a fluted pommel, the grip bound with smooth, twisted and braided wire, a pierced kidney-shaped guard and a c 87.5 cm long double-edged blade decorated on one side with an inscription in three lines CAROLUS 12 DER GROSE HELT DER BEWUNDER ALLER WELT TAGLICH VOR GOTT NIEDER FELT WARUND ER AUCH DEN SIEG ERHALT. The other side has the same inscription with the exception of the middle line. Above the inscription, the three Swedish crowns and on the ricasso two mirrored C with a faint 12 in the middle.
