'Hotel King David' in Jerusalem became instantly world famous on July 22, 1946, when the radical Zionist movement 'Irgun Zevai Leummi' - led by later Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin (1913–1992) - detonated 350 kilos of trotyl in the southern part of the building, then the nerve center of Palestine's British administration. The attack, which killed 91 people, including 28 Britons, was the most serious terrorist assault of its time.
