Ancher's painting got a positive review in “Dagbladet” on the 9th of May 1876 (in Danish): “The painting is full of light and nature, captivating especially in the description of the weathered fishermen, but also in the way weather and temperature are expressed”.

A good example of one of Michael Ancher's early large paintings from Skagen where he spent his first summer in 1874.
