A fine and heavy Tibetan gilt bronze figure of a lama seated in dhyanasana on a double cushion throne covered by two blankets all richly engraved with foliage and flowers, he is dressed in a heavy pleated robe with a supportive back, right hand in the vitarka mudra, the left resting on his lap probably holding a now missing sutra book, on his right elbow a support for a now missing lotus flower and stem. Sealed bottom. 17th-18th century. Weight 5037 g. H. 21.5 cm.

Provenance: Carl Alfred Jensen, 1886–1953. CAJ was an engineer at Northern Telegraph Company and was posted in China 1911–1927, where he lived with his wife and two daughters. The family stayed at various places in China but mainly lived in Tiensien.
