Olga Alexandrovna (b. Peterhof near St. Petersburg 1882, d. Toronto 1960, Grand Duchess of Russia)
A baluster shaped porcelain vase, decorated in gold and colours with a flowering Christmas cactus on white ground. Signed and dated Olga 1930 (in Cyrillic) with her dedication in the bottom to Nil Alekseevich Zavalishin. Rosenthal Porcelain Factory. H. 13.5 cm.
Provenance: The Danish seller's stepmother's parents, Arne Hammer and his Russian-born wife, Tatiana Konstantinova Hammer, née Martinson. Arne Hammer worked for the Great Northern Telegraph Company and travelled often to Russia in the 1920s. In Irkutsk, he met Tatiana, whom he married and moved to Denmark. Tatiana Hammer belonged to the Russian circles in Copenhagen and received this vase directly from Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrova, when she lived here in exile.
Minimal wear due to age and use, among others minor worn gilding.
