Conrad Christian Böhndel, after, early-20th century

The original portrait of Conrad Christian Böhndel (b. Schleswig 1779, d. s.p. 1847) is dated to 1830. Illustrated: Bo Bramsen, “Huset Glücksborg i 150 år”, Copenhagen 1975, vol. 1, p. 41.

The portrait has been owned by Prince Hans of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1825–1911) and depicts his maternal grandfather, the Landgrave. Prince Hans was the son of Duke Wilhelm and Duchess Louise of Glücksburg, née Princess of Hesse-Kassel. The portrait is part of a uniform picture series of three generations with Prince Hans himself, his father and his maternal grandfather. Prince Hans of Glücksborg was the brother of, among others, King Christian IX of Denmark, Duke Carl of Glücksburg, Duke Frederik of Glücksburg and Duchess Frederikke of Anhalt-Bernburg. Prince Hans lived for many years in an apartment in the Yellow Palace in Copenhagen. He was childless and when he died, his family at Glücksborg Castle were among the heirs.
