An original b/w press photograph of the Paris student riots in May/June 1968. Back with 'Le Figaro' stamp and typed text, ' 'Pour le classement. Pas pour la publ.' [To be filed. Not for publication]. Visible size 20×25 cm. Frame size 27×34 cm.

The French student revolt began in a Paris suburb and was soon joined by a general strike eventually involving more than 10 million workers. During much of May 1968, Paris was engulfed in the worst rioting since the Popular Front era of the 1930s, and the rest of the country was at a standstill. Later on the period was simply known as 'mai 68' [May 68]. Many things fuelled the riots, among these resistance against capitalism, against consumerism, American imperialism and traditional institutions.

Condition

This is an original b/w press photograph from 1968, which shows a slightly wavy and yellowed surface. Lower corners both creased. Corners with pinholes and pressure marks from these. Furthermore general signs of handling.
