Michael Ancher, ascribed to (b. Bornholm 1849, d. Skagen 1927)

Study of a fisherman walking. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 40×29 cm.

The label on the stretcher stating (in Danish) “This painted study of a fisherman is by Michael Ancher (from 1874 or 75)” is presumably written by the painter and art historian Karl Madsen (1855–1938), who was in Skagen with Ancher in the years mentioned.

Provenance: Bruun Rasmussen auction 383, 1978 no. 7.

Condition

The canvas is relined. Minor repairs, retouches and crackles.
