A Moroccan tribal carpet from the Beni Ouarain tribe. Made in black and white wool. Dated 1977. 322×198 cm.
The nomadic Beni Ouarain tribe journey through the Rif mountains in north east Morocco from the end of March to the beginning of October. The tribe use wool from Olit Izmem sheep and it takes several months to weave the carpets. The weaving is a very spiritual process for the Beni Ouarain people.
