Odessan jeweller 1908-1917

A Russian 14k gold bracelet in the form of major and minor oval joints, partly with satin finish. Cyrillic maker's mark AZ, Odessa 1908–1917, 56 standard. Weight c. 53 g. W. 2.8 cm. L. 18 cm.

Provenance: Olga Winkert, (b. Kherson, Ukraine 1885, d. Berlin 1981), married to Jasha Jakubson and resident of Odessa. According to family tradition, the earrings were a gift to Olga at the wedding and the bracelet at a later occassion. In 1922, due to the Russian Revolution and the Russian Civil War, the married couple fled to Berlin with their seven-year-old daughter, Tussja Jakubson (1915–2015). She had her mother's jewelry - including this bracelet - sewn into her doll. This prevented the jewelry from being found and confiscated during the escape. Later, the bracelet were inherited by Tussja Jakubson, who got married in Denmark and was a resident of Denmark. Thence by her son until today.
