This drawing is the original drawing for a lithograph in “Dansk Pantheon. Et Portraitgalleri for Samtiden”, 1842–51, published by Em. Bærentzen & Comp.'s Lithographic Institute.

The Danish physicist and chemist Hans Christian Ørsted was one of the central figures of the Danish Golden Age. He is generally credited with the discovery of electromagnetism.
