Georg Wilhelm Pauli (b. Jönköping, Sweden 1855, d. Stockholm 1935)

Standing female, 1915. Signed monogram; signed and dated on the reverse. Oil on canvas. 45×28 cm.

Provenance: The collection of the artist Erik Werenskiold (1855–1938), Norway. Acquired directly from Georg Wilhelm Pauli. Hence by descent in the family and not previously offered for sale.

In a postcard from Pauli to Werenskiold on December 20, 1912 (illustrated below) the artist writes that he has been in Paris the year before and has been painting in a cubistic manner, what was then still new style to him.
