An original b/w gelatin silver press photograph of British Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery (1887–1976) during a visit to The White House in the fall of 1946. Back with contemporary news telegram dated September 12, 1946, newspaper notice, stamped publication dates (May 13, 1957, June 14, 1964) and handwtitten layout instructions. Furthermore remains of glued-on sheet. Double glazing. Visible size 24×19 cm. Frame size 34×29 cm.

Montgomery, one of the most important WWII military commanders, is widely known not least for his fight against the German General Erwin Rommel (1891–1944) and the 'Deutsches Afrikakorps' during the final part of the so-called Desert Campaign, which took place in North Africa from 1942–1943, ending with British victory in Tunesia in May 1943. Winston Churchill said about Monrgomery that he was 'unbeatable in battle and unbearable in victory'.

Condition

This is an original b/w gelatin silver press photograph from 1946, which shows a wavy surface (upper part), surface cracklings as well as creased corners. Telegram on back has yellowed severely.
