Francis Ford Coppola's brilliant opening scene in “The Godfather Part I” (Connie's wedding) lasts no less than 27 minutes. During this - in terms of movie productions very long span of time - the viewer is allowed to have a look into the Corleone family's innermost secrets, is being introduced to the key figures of the movie and gets a vivid impression of the Italian culture that makes up the base of the drama.

The scene takes place in 1945 and was shot in Staten Island, New York. Approx. 750 local residents participated as extras.
