Portrait of naval officer Louis de Coninck (1788–1840). Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 68×55 cm.
Louis de Coninck was the son of councillor (etatsråd) Frédéric de Coninck, Dronningegaard. He made a career in the navy and in this portrait he is wearing a uniform of a naval officer. Louis de Coninck was the head of the guard ship at Altona in 1823 and 1824 and in 1835 he became the head of the frigate Bellona in the Mediterranean, from where he returned to Denmark with some of the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen's works.
He was editor and publisher of “Arkiv for Søvæsen” (Archives of Maritime Affairs).
