Axel Salto (b. Copenhagen 1889, d. Frederiksberg 1961)

Collection of 10 original drawings in ink and watercolours signed by Axel Salto. Various sizes, the smallest measuring 17.5×12.7 cm, the largest 31×50 cm. Several mounted in passepartouts. Mostly undated, but one dated 1907, one 1943.

Enclosed Axel Salto (ed.): Klingen. Cph 1917–19 (1st and 2nd year). Lacking issue 4, 2nd year. Illust. with orig. graphics by Salto, Johannes Larsen and others. Incomplete. Vol. 1 bound in half cloth, with signs of wear. Binding of vol. 2 defect, spine and board loose. (3)

This collection of drawings contains original drafts for book illustrations and includes one of the original illustrations for Ovidius' “Elskovskunsten“ (The Art of Love Making), as well as for Axel Salto's own work ”Kusais hændelser“ (1934) and for Marcus Lauesen ”12 Sonetter” (1941).
