I 1919 grundlagde Douglas Fairbanks sammen med Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith og Mary Pickford filmselskabet United Artists. Douglas Fairbanks var i årene 1920–1936 gift med skuespillerinbden Mary Pickford.
