An original b/w press photograph of Winston Churchill (1874–1965) during his first wartime BBC radio speech, October 1, 1939. This copy developed 1965 or earlier. Back with 'Associated Press' agency stamp and stamped publication date (January 25, 1965). Visible size 25×20 cm. Frame size 32×27 cm.
Churchill - at the time of this speech not yet Prime Minister, but First Lord of the Admiralty - delivered his initial BBC speech on October 1, 1939, after an initial month of hostilities on the European continent that eventually led to World War II. Winston Churchill never liked the BBC, which earlier in his career had been almost hostile towards him. He did, however, fully understand the power of this new transmission tool that brought him into the homes of the Britons.
This is an original b/w press photograph from 1965 or earlier, which has yellowed slightly. Furthermore normal signs of handling.
